Musicians, engineers, and producers looking for an affordable hybrid analog/digital mixer will be impressed with the Korg SoundLink MW-1608, a 16x8x2 mixer with advanced features such as mute groups, musician’s custom monitor mixes, HiVolt high-headroom mic preamps, 8 mono / 4 stereo inputs, 8 buses, and a powerful digital section with 32-bit Korg effects, dynamics, and a 31-band paragraphic EQ with integrated spectrum analyzer, well suited for live bands, recording studios, and small broadcast applications.
Designed in conjunction with legendary mixer designers Greg Mackie and Peter Watts, the SoundLink MW-1608 features 12 XLR HiVolt microphone preamps with a 16.5V internal voltage for clean, high headroom. Line-level inputs are available via 1/4″ inputs with mono inputs on channels 1-8 and stereo input on channels 9-16. Each channel offers input gain, EQ, four aux sends, an FX send, pan, mute, overload and -20 dB LEDs, 8-bus assignment switches, a 60mm fader, and a pre-fader listen switch. Mono channels each feature a 3-band EQ with a sweepable mid frequency, a 100 Hz high-pass filter, and a single-knob compressor, while stereo input channels each feature a four-band EQ with two fix-band mid-band EQs.
Outputs include a pair of XLR and 1/4″ main outputs, a stereo pair 1/4″ monitor outputs, 8 mono / 4 stereo bus outputs, and four aux sends with XLR outputs. Additionally, Aux 3-4 features two 1/4″ musician’s phones outputs, which allow vocalists and drummers to customize their headphone mixes. Mute Groups let you choose what combination of channels you want live without having to fiddle with multiple channels. Press one of 4 Mute Group buttons, and touch each channel’s Mute that you want as part of the Mute Group.
The digital section features studio-quality dynamics processing with two types of compressors, two types of noise gates, and a limiter, as well as the anti-feedback functions and dedicated EQs for Main L/R and Aux 1-2. The 31-band spectrum analyzer works in conjunction with the paragraphic EQ, which provides access to 9 selectable bands out of 31 bands for fast and efficient feedback suppression. The onboard digital effects utilize a 32-bit DSP engine and offer 20 types of effects (10 simultaneus) from reverbs and delays to modulation FX and test tones. All digital settings can be saved and recalled for fast and efficient operation. The SoundLink MW-1608 ships with a power cord and includes iZotope RX Elements.
