The Warm Audio Fen-tone is a modern reimagining of a classic 1950s B&O ribbon microphone, blending vintage character with high-performance components for today’s recordings. It retains the smooth, natural tone that made the original mic legendary while incorporating key upgrades, including a precision-crafted Japanese ribbon, a powerful Neodymium magnet, and a custom CineMag USA transformer. Designed to handle high SPLs with exceptional detail, the figure-8 Fen-tone excels on a wide range of sources, from guitar cabs, drum overheads, and horns to pianos, acoustic guitars, and strings.

Fen-tone adds a built-in, all-analog +26 dB JFET in-line preamp (requiring +48V phantom power), ensuring optimal gain and performance—especially useful when pairing with low-gain interface preamps. Staying true to the original design, the Fen-tone features a compact, pencil-style body with ventilated sides, making it easy to position in tight studio setups.

Selectable +26 dB In-Line Warm Lifter Preamp

Featuring an all-analog, discrete JFET Warm Lifter circuit with +26 dB of ultra-clean gain and a 5 kilohms high-impedance design, Fen-tone ensures optimal signal integrity (+48V phantom power is required). Plug the mic directly into interfaces or lower-quality preamps without sacrificing volume, tone, or frequency response.

Classic Figure-8 Polar Pattern

Fen-tone’s figure-8 polar pattern eliminates side-address noise, capturing only what’s in front and behind it. Ideal for recording two acoustic instrumentalists facing each other, it minimizes bleed more effectively than other microphone designs.
